BIOGRAPHY / COMMENT:
In the year 1985, a band called GENOCIDE was born in Flint, Michigan. Scott Carlson (vocals and bass), Aaron Freeman (guitar), Matt Olivo (guitar) and Dave Grave (drums) recorded their debut demo called "Stench Of Burning Death" one year later. This demo was one of the pioneer ones in a new genre that later was named as Grindcore (many people think that this demo is a real classic and even NAPALM DEATH claim to be influenced by REPULSION!). In the same year, the band change the name to REPULSION due to the big quantity of bands existing with the same monicker. The band was put on hold after Evil Chuck Schuldiner asked Scott and Matt to enter DEATH. This relationship didn't lasted for too long as in the same year, the guys returned to Michigan. Soon after, in June '86, REPULSION recorded the now classic "Slaughter Of The Innocent" record that supposedly was going to be released through Wyatt Earp Records, the label from the producer of the record, Doug Earp, thing that never happened as the band broke up in the year 1987, when Matt Olivo joined the Armed Forces. In 1989, Jeff Walker and Bill Steer from CARCASS got the rights to release the record through their new label Necrosis Records, under a different title: "Horrified". The LP became a classic of immense proportions in the Underground extreme scene. Due to the big success of the record, three of the original members (all except Matt) reunited and recorded the "Rebirth" demo tape in the year 1991. Two of the demo tracks were released through Relapse Records as a 7"EP entitled "Excruciation" and after that, the same label re-released the debut album on CD format with the song  "Black
Nightmare" from the GENOCIDE demo as bonus. Matt even returned to
the band, that played numerous shows allaround the States. Unfortunately
(and sadly for the Grind/Death scenes), in the year 1993 the band broke
up definately. Matt and Aaron formed a band after that called DEJECTA
that released a demo and that's the last thing heard from the guys. Relapse
Records is going to re-release "Horrified" together with the
demos and some rare stuff on a double CD in a near future.BIOGRAFIA / COMENTARIO:
En el año 1985, una banda llamada GENOCIDE se formó en Flint, Michigan. Scott Carlson (voz y bajo), Aaron Freeman (guitarra), Matt Olivo (guitarra) y Dave Grave (batería) grabaron su demo debut titulada "Stench Of Burning Death" un año después. Esa demo fue una auténtica pionera en un género nuevo que más tarde se dió en llamar Grindcore (un buen puñado de gente piensa que esta demo es todo un clásico, e incluso NAMAPL DEATH dicen haber sido influenciados por REPULSION!). Ese mismo año, la banda cambió su nombre a REPULSION debido a la gran cantidad de grupos que existían con ese mismo nombre. La banda estuvo parada un tiempo, ya que Evil Chuck Schuldiner les pidió a Scott y a Matt que se juntaran a DEATH. Esa relación duró poco y los dos regresaron a Michigan. Al poco, en Junio del '86, REPULSION grabó el ahora clásico "Slaughter Of The Innocent", que supuestamente iba a ser editado por Wyatt Earp Records, el sello del productor del disco Doug Earp. Esto último nunca llegó a suceder ya que el grupo se disolvió en el año 1987, cuando Matt Olivo se metió en el ejército. El disco se convirtió en todo un clásico de enormes proporciones en el Underground extremo. Y debido al éxito obtenido por el álbum, tres de los miembros originales (todos menos Matt) se juntaron de nuevo y grabaron la demo "Rebirth" en el año 1991. Dos de los temas de esa demo fueron editados en formato 7"EP por Relapse Records titulado "Excruciation" y tras esto, ese mismo sello re-editó "Horrified" en formato CD con el tema "Black Nightmare" de la demo de GENOCIDE como bonus. Matt regresó al grupo y llegaron a tocar bastantes conciertos por los Estados Unidos. Desafortunadamente (y tristemente para las escenas Grind/Death), en el año 1993 el grupo se disolvió definitivamente. Matt y Aaron formaron después una banda llamada DEJECTA que editó una demo y eso es lo último que se supo de ellos. Relapse Records va a editar en un futuro cercano el disco "Horrified" junto con las demos del grupo y algún material raro en un CD doble. |
